What our students have to say

Hi Maryann
Just wanted to let you know that Logan David
, 7lb. 2oz and 21 hours labour was born on Friday July 18, 2008 at 1:45am - I was in labour in my prenatal yoga class.  I did really well with my contractions and after 5 hours, requested an epidural and 7 hours later (10 pushes) he was born.  My doula was amazing but I also wanted to thank you so much for all of your advice and letting us know what to expect in labour and tools to cope with it.  I would never have done so well and come out so unscathed if it hadn't been for you.  The labour preparation class we also took with you was a great help.  Tell everybody that my only advice is to keep going to prenatal yoga class every week and breathe, breathe, breathe!!!  See everyone in mom and baby yoga!

I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your advice and prenatal yoga classes.  It truely helped and made my labour and delivery a great experience that I can't wait to do again.  On every contraction I heard you telling me to breath into it and when it came time to push I losened my jaw.  After 12 hours of labouring, including 1 hour of pushing, we delivered a beautiful 7lb. baby girl on June 13, 2008 at 10:18am.  Thanks again for everything.  I can't wait to get back to see you for regular yoga.

I wanted to say thanks to you for making my labour and delivery an enjoyable experience.  I gave birth to a baby boy, Michael on May 17/08.  The breathing which we practiced during prenatal yoga helped me feel relaxed during the entire experience.  What I found made me feel at ease was releasing my jaw during the breathing and contractions, as you helped us visualize during our classes;  I believe it realy did relax the perineum area and made the contractions less painful.
Thanks again, Elizabeth R.

I am happy to share the news that on Friday September 28th, 2007 Chuck and I added a little girl to the world...Lila Kalozdi MacMillan - 7lbs.10oz.  The yoga breathing saved my life and we were able to have an unmedicated delivery!  Even my Mom commented she couldn't believe how calm I was in between contractions.

Thank you so much for being part of this.  Your studio and classes are amazing.  Can't wait to see everyone again for Mom & Baby Yoga.

I started coming to Joy of Yoga approximately three years ago after the birth of my second child.  I was tired, stressed, over weight and not myself.  I was embarrassed about the condition I was in physically and mentally and knew I had to do something about it.  I started looking for a Yoga centre and found Joy of Yoga and Maryann - a god-send in my life.

I started out attending a Restorative Yoga class every Saturday morning and loved it - I started to feel better physically and mentally.  I was hooked by the healing powers of Yoga and also gained the guidance and understanding of a wonderful teacher.  Soon I started to attend a Hatha II yoga class on Saturday mornings, which was more vigorous than the Restorative class and really enjoyed it.  It wasn't long before I started running again and attending more Yoga classes.

Three years plus later I am a "Yoga Junkie", going to Maryann's class three to five times a week (on a good week...I have 2 kids).  Yoga is an integral part of my life now - so much so that I couldn't imagine NOT doing Yoga.

Maryann is an incredible teacher who inspires you to push the limits of your mind and body.  In a class full of other students she has the ability to make you feel as if you are the only one in the room.  Her hands-on corrections of postures and her verbal cues are gentle yet push you to reach your optimum mental and physical limits.  My body is doing things I never imagined it could; my mind is sharp and I am truly at peace with myself and those around me, in part because of my Yoga practice.

I highly recommend Yoga and more specifically Joy of Yoga to anyone searching for the mind/body balance.

I have had the pleasure of attending Joy of Yoga for approximately two years now.  The studio has a calm, peaceful environment.  Maryann, the studio owner, is an amazing yoga instructor.  She is very aware of her students needs and will make gentle corrections when necessary.  Her classes are always a pleasure to attend and she has class levels suitable for everyone.  I highly recommend Joy of Yoga - all of the instructors are top notch!
